Building Resilience in the Face of Climate Risk

As this last year has so poignantly illustrated, climate risks are here now and being felt in real and traumatic ways. We can no longer use the past to predict the future, and our resilience to climate risks requires action on practical and cultural levels.

This webinar will explore how climate resilience is being considered in our built environment and social fabric, and what we can and should be doing in the face of increasing challenges related to climate change. Join us as Join Dr. Deb L. Morrison, associate faculty of the MA in Climate Action Leadership facilitates a rich conversation and stories from the front lines. 

Rachel LaFortune, researcher at Human Rights Watch, will speak to governments’ human rights obligations to address the climate crisis, how the needs of those most at risk of climate impacts need to be at the center of government climate impact planning and response, and lessons learned from this summer’s heat dome. Wilma Leung of BC Housing will speak about mobilizing the construction sector’s capacity to improve climate adaptation and resilience in building design and renovations. Tyson Atleo will bring perspectives on climate resilience from his work as a leader with the Ahousaht Nation and on natural climate solutions with Nature United.
