Working while you go to school can be a great opportunity.

You'll get extra preparation for your career. You'll meet people in the community. You'll make money to help with expenses.

Work while you study

Most international students must have a valid study permit to attend Royal Roads on campus.

In some cases, your study permit allows you to work in Canada. You might need to apply for a new permit to be able to work.

Work on campus

As an international student, you might be able to work on campus at Royal Roads.

Work off campus

As an international student, you might be able to work off campus.

Here are the Government of Canada requirements you'll need to meet. You can also take this online quiz to find out if you can work off campus.

Regulations for work hours:

  • You can work up to 20 hours per week while you are in classes.
  • You can work full-time during scheduled breaks from school, such as summer holidays or spring break.

Internships

If your program has an internship, you'll need a special permit to take part.

The co-op or internship work permit is different than your study permit. You can apply for both at the same time.

Help your spouse or partner work in Canada

Your spouse or partner can work in Canada while you study if they have an open work permit.

The permit will usually be valid for the same length of time as your study permit.

Work in Canada after you graduate

After you graduate from Royal Roads, you might be able to work in Canada temporarily if you meet the requirements.

Immigration

As an international student, you need valid immigration documents to study in Canada.

You'll need to follow Canada's regulations on immigration and citizenship and apply for the right permits.
