Kyla Egan

From leading UN Destination Case Studies on climate action to building a regenerative social enterprise in Uganda, Kyla’s passion for environmental justice has shaped her career for the past decade. Starting her career in Latin America, Kyla worked with Indigenous and Afro-Indigenous communities to create inclusive economic development through responsible tourism programs. After moving to Vancouver Island in 2021, Kyla worked with 13 rural communities and First Nations to build economic, environmental, and social resilience during the pandemic. The focus of her work eventually transitioned to region-wide destination stewardship, where she led a range of innovative and strategic initiatives focused on regenerative approaches to development in tourism.

Experience

Kyla Egan works as the Director of Sustainability at 4VI. In this role, she is responsible for the design and development of 4VI’s sustainability portfolio, including notable work in climate action, gender equality, and reconciliation. As part of 4VI’s social enterprise model, Kyla also works as a sustainable tourism consultant collaborating with communities and businesses across Canada. Previous to this role, Kyla worked as a development consultant for community-based tourism in Central America and the Caribbean. 

Kyla also holds certificates on sustainable tourism, regenerative approaches to tourism development, carbon accounting, and economic development in Western Canada
