Meet your match: where students and employers find opportunities

Four students sitting around a table.

Many businesses and local organizations experience the same challenges: a shortage of labour, supply chain issues and planning their transition to the low-carbon economy. Taken together, this myriad of pressures creates the need to invigorate the workplace with fresh approaches and cutting-edge skills. These qualities are available to employers via the new Experiential Learning Hub web site and service at Royal Roads University.

The digital resource lets potential employers engage with students in a variety of ways, depending on their business need. Students, eager to apply their learning, can find out how they can contribute in meaningful ways to organizations and to gain valuable hands-on learning experiences.

Applied research projects offer an organization the chance to enlist student researchers for consulting projects, design projects or community-based research projects. Another option for organizations to collaborate with students are challenge-based projects. Students are briefed by community members about an opportunity or challenge that is affecting their organization. Through collaboration and teamwork, students seek to address, respond and contribute to these real-world issues.

Organizations aren’t limited to campus-based engagement. The Experiential Learning Hub also offers connections for off-campus opportunities including field trips – offering students learning activities that are part of course delivery and contribute to learning outcomes – as well as service-learning volunteering options, which integrate meaningful community service with instruction, reflection and critical thinking.

The variety of options available to connect community and campus creates a wide range of possibilities for organizations. To find the best match to suit your needs, visit the new Experiential Learning Hub today or contact the Career Learning and Development Office at Royal Roads.
