Royal Roads shortlisted for Ashoka U Innovation Award

February 1, 2018

Ashoka U has named Royal Roads University as a double semi-finalist in its 2018 Innovation Award, the organization’s top honour for premiere higher education programs in social innovation education.

The award recognizes high impact and replicable education innovations, including pioneering teaching models, co-curricular programming, community partnerships and research. Ashoka U is an initiative of Ashoka, the world’s largest network of social entrepreneurs and changemakers.

Royal Roads has been named as a semi-finalist in two categories: “Graduate Program,” for the Doctor of Social Sciences program led by program head and Assoc. Prof. Siomonn Pulla, and “Research,” for the university’s Sustainability Research Effectiveness program led by Prof. Brian Belcher.

“Having two semi-finalists for this award is a testament to these programs and the work being done across Royal Roads by our staff and faculty,” says Assoc. Prof. Robert Mittelman, director of the School of Business and an Ashoka U Changemaker Campus leader for Royal Roads. “It shows the kind of programs and research happening at our institution is truly special and unique in higher education. These nominations are just two examples of why we’ve been recognized as a Changemaker Campus.”

The Ashoka U Changemaker Campus Network is a dynamic, global community of more than 40 universities and colleges committed to advancing social innovation and changemaking across their institution and beyond.

The finalists for the award will be announced at the 2018 Ashoka U Exchange conference, April 5 to 7 in Boston, Massachusetts.
