Expanded post-secondary options considered for West Shore
The Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training announced it will provide $1.5 million to prepare a full business case for a transformative model of undergraduate education for students on the West Shore.
The announcement follows a recently completed feasibility study that explored how to best serve the educational needs of one of the fastest growing regions in Canada.
The report found that post-secondary transition rates are lower for students on the West Shore compared to the provincial average. While 34 per cent of BC high school graduates immediately transition to university, only about 17 per cent of West Shore high school students do the same because of barriers including tuition costs, housing affordability and proximity to post-secondary institutions.
