School of Humanitarian Studies Assist. Prof. Athena Madan was profiled by Jack Knox in an article in the Times Colonist about her winning submission for the 2018 Untold Health Story Contest, Children Trafficked for Cocaine Production in Colombia.

Here is an excerpt:

“Children are the right size for the job, clinging to the vat’s rim with fingers and toes while using long straws to suck the gasoline, cement and caustic soda out of the coca leaf mixture.”
