Homer-Dixon on Trump’s legacy
Complexity researcher Dr. Thomas Homer-Dixon, director of the Cascade Institute at Royal Roads University,
Donald Trump is no longer the president of the United States, but the threat to US democracy he represents persists, argues complexity researcher Dr. Thomas Homer-Dixon.
The director of the Cascade Institute at Royal Roads University spoke to Global BC and CFAX 1070 on Inauguration Day about the legacy of the Trump presidency.
Here is an excerpt from his discussion with CFAX 1070 host Ryan Price:
“I think the real concern for the United States is not Donald Trump. It’s the more competent demagogue that can take advantage of these deep distresses and deep anger in certain communities in the United States and mobilize them more effectively. We haven’t seen who that is…
“We were saved in the end from Donald Trump because of his sheer incompetence, especially when it came to managing the pandemic. The next person who comes along to mobilize the anger in the United States may not be so incompetent and that scares me far more.”
