Diamant: School dress code language discriminates
Associate faculty member Tasha Diamant was interviewed by CFAX Radio's Pamela McCall June 15 about changing discriminatory language in school dress codes.
Here is an except from the interview:
“Our dress codes are sending the wrong messages more even to boys than to girls. Because what it’s saying in dress codes is that we need to create a distraction free environment. Effectively that means that girls shouldn’t wear things that distract boys and what that’s saying is: what girls wear is what girls are responsible for – boys behaviour,” says Diamant. “This is wrong on many levels and it insults our boys. It hurts our girls.”
