This bursary will provide financial support for students who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nation, Métis, Inuit, Non-Status) who seek to build, engage, and maintain a connection with their home community and relatives as part of their learning at Royal Roads University.

Bursary value will be at the discretion of Financial Aid & Awards, based on need and the amount of funding available; it is expected that bursaries will typically range from $1,000 to $5,000 each to address the variety of needs and opportunities students encounter. For example:
- Funding for travel to connect or reconnect with a relative or home community.
- Funding to participate in home community activities, including honouring elders and cultural community events.
- Student research that engages home community members (e.g. building local skills and capacity, preserving or sharing languages, knowledge or cultural practice, etc.).

Eligibility

  • Students identifying as Indigenous (First Nation, Métis, Inuit, Non-Status)
  • Students actively engaged in any degree program at RRU
  • Demonstrate reasonable financial need
  • Opportunity to connect of stay connected with relatives, elders and/or members of a home community while a student
