Elizabeth A. Childs


Expertise: Educational technology, instructional design, adult education and online learning, the changing face of distance education and the use of social media in problem-based learning environments.

Eugene Thomlinson

Associate faculty

Thomlinson has taught tourism and hospitality in Canada and Australia. He worked for the Canadian Tourism Commission and Parks Canada.

Expertise: Tourism market research and management.

Eva Malisius

Associate professor

Expertise: Conflict competence in leadership and teams, human rights related to early stages of human life, integration of video assignments in learning and teaching, conflict at the interpersonal and community levels and the national to the international levels and engaging with conflict more constructively.

Geo Takach


Communicator, writer and documentary filmmaker includes hundreds of speeches, publications (books, magazines, newspapers, corporate fare), film, radio, television and video. He published two books in 2016, Tar Wars and Scripting the Environment.

Expertise: Environmental communication and environment and democracy.


Geoff Archer

Associate professor

Archer is the director of the Eric C. Douglass Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies. He has published a number of works including his 2016 book, #WriteIn16: A Field Guide to the 100 Most Presidential Americans.

Expertise: entrepreneurship, experiential learning, microbusiness, microfinance

Geoffrey Bird


Bird has produced a series of films exploring Canadian war history and heritage. His latest work, A Moral Awakening, explores the legacy of the atomic bomb on the Délı̨nę First Nation of the Northwest Territories.

Expertise: Remembrance tourism, sustainable tourism, tourism human resource development policy and practice, the visitor experience and war heritage.

George Veletsianos


Veletsianos is the Canada Research Chair in Innovative Learning and Technology.

Expertise: Online learning, the use of social media for education and scholarship, new forms of teaching and learning and the digital transformation of education.

Jaigris Hodson

Associate professor

Hodson is a frequent media commentator and author for The Conversation Canada.

She maintains an active role as a social media consultant, with clients such as the Canadian Country Music Association. She deleted her Facebook account in 2017.

Expertise: Uses of computer-assisted discourse, analysis of large multimodal online and digital texts, the importance of soft skills for students, Canadian social media use during elections and the future of local news in North America.

Jean Slick


Slick held a range of leadership positions with the Canadian Red Cross in 28 years with the organization, including director of disaster management and international services for Western Canada.

Expertise: leading disaster recovery activities in domestic and international contexts, the role of sheltering in disaster management.

Jeffrey Orr

Associate faculty

Orr works in film on issues of government accountability including duty to document legislation, freedom of information and citizen rights.

Expertise: Written, verbal and visual persuasive rhetoric, advertising and political persuasion, pop culture, including digital micro-rhetoric (Twitter, Facebook and social media) and viral media, and culture and security across the Canada–US border.

Jennifer Walinga


Walinga was a member of Canada’s Commonwealth, World and Olympic gold medal rowing teams from 1983 to 1992.

Expertise: Organizational communication, team dynamics and high performance, creative insight and social innovation, workplace health and sport education.
