Robbins-Ollivier Award for Excellence in Equity
2023 Call
The Canada Research Chairs Program is inviting eligible institutions to submit nominations to the second annual Robbins-Ollivier Award for Excellence in Equity. This award recognizes the significant contributions that Marjorie Griffin Cohen, Louise Forsyth, Glenis Joyce, Audrey Kobayashi, Shree Mulay, Susan Prentice, Michèle Ollivier and Wendy Robbins have made to increase the level of equity in the CRCP and Canada’s research ecosystem more broadly. The objectives of the award are to:
- fund bold and potentially game-changing institutional-level initiatives that will challenge the status quo, spark change and take action to address persistent systemic barriers within the institution research ecosystem and academia more broadly;
- recognize faculty members who contribute their time, expertise and lived experience to help address inequities in their institution, the research ecosystem and academia; and
- provide opportunities for students and trainees to contribute to this important work.
This prestigious award will therefore recognize an innovative, institutional-level project led by a faculty member who has a track record of equity related leadership and experience.
Please note: Nominations are limited to initiatives that help identify and/or address systemic barriers within the nominating institution and, by extension, the research ecosystem. Research projects in EDI-focused disciplines will not be accepted.

If you would like to submit a project for consideration, please contact Research Services to receive an Expression of Interest form. Use your EOI to provide a brief summary of your project and describe how your nomination will address the award selection criteria listed on the website under the categories of:
1) Project; and
2) Leadership and commitment to equity.
Send your Award EOI form to researchservices@royalroads.ca no later than midnight August 21. Royal Roads may only submit one nomination. Only submissions demonstrating how they meet the award criteria will be considered for nomination. Multiple submissions that meet the award criteria will be reviewed by RRU's Research Advisory Committee.
The external deadline to submit nominations is November 7, 2023.
Please feel free to reach out to Research Services with any questions you might have or to schedule a meeting to discuss this opportunity.

Anti-Racism in Research
An anti-racist research approach takes into consideration the adverse historic and structural influences that have impacted all aspects of research design – influences which have both caused harm to racialized communities as well as compromised research quality and validity of results. This toolkit aims to provide actionable strategies to use when designing and implementing research projects with anti-racism and inclusion in mind.

Gender Equity in Research
The toolkit has two primary aims: 1) To provide researchers with concrete examples of how to address gender inequities in research practice, by considering how research is conducted and by whom; and 2) To provide researchers with concrete examples of why gender matters in how research is conducted.
