What Does It Take to Lead an IB School? Review of Research on Leadership in International Schools

Doug Hamilton was granted Research and Professional Development funds for a comprehensive literature review on leadership assets required at International Baccalaureate schools.

What is unique about leadership in international schools, especially IB schools? What are the key skills and competencies required to lead in International Baccalaureate (IB) schools? The proposed study begins with a comprehensive literature review to answer these questions. Using an integrative review methodology, the study will systematically analyze a broad array of literature sources to better understand the common themes related to effective leadership in international schools. The results of the study will fill a current gap in the published literature, be useful to practising K-12 educators, and serve as a foundation for a further research with existing school leaders.
