Emergency funding

The RRUSA Student Urgent Response Fund will provide emergency bursary support for students who are members of the Royal Roads University Student Association (RRUSA) and are facing unforeseen financial need that creates a barrier to completion of studies.

Bursary values will made at the discretion of the approval committee, based on need and the amount of funding available; it is expected that bursaries will typically range from $500 to $2,000 to address the variety of needs students encounter.

This bursary is made possible through annual contributions by students at RRU through RRUSA fees. RRUSA’s mission is to create an inclusive environment that promotes engagement, service and support, and advocacy and empowerment on behalf of RRU students. In support of that mission, these bursaries assist RRUSA members who have emergency need.

Understanding that unforeseen circumstances arise during study, this bursary is intended to address reasonable but critical financial need outside the regular cycle of award. In alignment with the fund name, “urgent response” is described as funds typically within three weeks. Bursaries and other financial resources should be exhausted for financial need that is not time sensitive.

Eligibility

  • Reasonable and unforeseen financial need that creates a barrier to completion of study
  • Other financial resources have been exhausted
  • Satisfactory progress in the program
  • RRUSA member in good standing (membership excludes Doctorate, Certificate, Diploma, Micro-credential & non-credit programs).

How to apply

Complete the Emergency Funding Application and submit to RRU's Financial Aid and Awards office.

Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis and the selection committee will determine the appropriate type of emergency funding to offer, depending on individual circumstances and how much funding is available.

Allow roughly three weeks for the application to be reviewed and funding issued, if approved.
