In the name of wild: the interactive documentary

Phillip Vannini was awarded a Research and Professional Development grant to present material collected through research on the meaning of wild through a non-linear interactive documentary.

“In the name of wild: the interactive documentary” will showcase material being collected as part of my SSHRC- and CRC-funded research on the meanings of wild. The research will yield a variety of outputs including writings, a traditional documentary film, and the interactive documentary discussed here. As opposed to a traditional documentary (which is also being created) the interactive documentary will be an internet-based multi-modal user-generated experience informed by the “choose your own adventure” narrative aesthetic. In other words, instead of a traditional linear narrative established by a film editor, an interactive documentary allows end users access to an open-ended meshwork of explorations pursued on the basis of the user’s interests. There are many types of interactive documentaries. The one I will be working on draws from a gamefied format similar to: http://www.fortmcmoney.com/#/fortmcmoney
