Exploring ways to integrate sustainable captioning practices in MAELM online video use in Moodle

Dr. Frederic Fovet received an RRU Buttedahl Skene Fund award to conduct an action research project using the principles of Universal Design for Learning.

Accessibility is becoming a key issue in higher education teaching and learning. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) has recently enabled campuses to focus on the needs of diverse learners. The UDL scholarship is growing and faculty are increasingly embracing the three UDL principles and using them to design flexible and accessible learning. Questions are being brought forward by faculty are practical and often involve support and guidance through experimentation with software and accessibility practices. This action research project responds to requests from Associate Faculty within the Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Management program to collectively develop best practices for the captioning of videos produced within the online learning platform, Moodle.
