Embracing a Continuum of Openness: Faculty Perspectives Designing and Delivering a Graduate Program with Openness as Core Value

Dr. Childs was awarded an Internal Grant for Research for presentations on research into the perceptions of openness within the Master of Arts in Learning and Technology program.

The Master of Arts in Learning and Technology (MALAT) program represents a case study for the open community. In MALAT, students contribute meaningfully to digital learning networks and communities in the field as they work to create and evaluate digital learning environments and apply theoretical and practical knowledge to critically analyze learning innovations and assess their impact on organizations and society. These presentations share findings of research on faculty and student perceptions of openness and related sub-areas of assessment, social presence and technology competency and use. Themes include: the complexity of defining openness; openness within an institutional learning and teaching model; faculty and student risk, privacy and required support, and the impact on course design, delivery and scalability.
