Climate Action Competency Framework

Robin Cox was awarded Research and Professional Development funds to examine climate action through an education framework designed around Upskilling, Reskilling, and teaching new skills

Upskilling, Reskilling, teaching new skills. All are needed to develop the climate action capacity of our communities and societies as we face the escalating crisis of climate change. Grounding learning and training in competencies is a critical part of contributing to this endeavor. This project builds on the Climate Adaptation Competency Framework (CACF), developed by the Resilience By Design Lab as part of their Adaptation Learning Network project, to revise and extend the CACF as a Climate ACTION Competency Framework that accounts for both adaptation and mitigation related skills, knowledge, and attributes. This work, done in collaboration with Pearson International Baccalaureate College, will provide a robust framework that can support learning design and competency assessment for climate related educational programming (e.g., MA Climate Action Leadership program – RRU; Diploma Climate Action Leadership – Pearson; RRU’s climate action microcredentials). A key focus of this work will be to expand upon and revise competencies related to socio-ecological justice, Indigenous engagement, and climate mitigation.
