Dr. Marnie Jull is an associate professor in the School of Leadership Studies at Royal Roads University and former head of the MA in Conflict Analysis and Management program. A scholar-practitioner with over 20 years of experience, she specializes in conflict, leadership, and systems thinking, with a focus on cultivating insight, collaboration, and meaningful change. She is a leading contributor to the Insight approach to conflict and change-making, and her recent book, An Anatomy of Everyday Argument: Conflict and Change Through Insight (McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2022), explores how everyday disagreements can become opportunities for insight and new possibilities.

Jull’s teaching and practice approach leadership as a dynamic interplay between inner awareness, interpersonal relationships, and systemic forces. Her research focus is the Insight method and cognitional theory as applied to interpersonal and workplace conflict in diverse domains, with additional interests in creativity and spirituality. She began her career with training and work as a journalist in Australia before moving into the non-profit sector, addressing issues of violence, poverty and sustainability in Thailand and Canada . She later held leadership roles in the Canadian federal public service in leadership development, conflict management, and values and ethics.

Since 2001, she has provided conflict coaching, group interventions, and strategic advising to individuals and senior leaders on conflict and organizational learning. She has worked extensively with a New-York based theatre company, TÉA Artistry, on projects to animate healing and humanity through the arts. Known for her warm, clear, and engaging approach, Jull brings both depth and levity to her work.

Experience

Prior to joining Royal Roads in 2016, Jull worked in a variety of contexts, including government, university, religious organizations, small business, as well as local and international not-for-profit organizations to address interpersonal, workplace and organizational conflict.
