Biodiversity is the foundation of healthy, resilient communities. Yet across our region, ecosystems face growing threats from development pressures, climate change, and habitat fragmentation. How can we work together to protect and restore the web of life that sustains us?
This panel discussion invites you to explore innovative approaches to biodiversity planning and action, supporting the living systems around us. Dr. Rob Newell will share insights on how municipalities can integrate biodiversity into planning frameworks, from landscape connectivity to climate resilience. Bob Peart will discuss the proposal for a new Urban Biosphere Reserve and the opportunities it could bring for conservation, education, and community engagement. Together, we’ll consider regional opportunities to safeguard biodiversity now and for future generations!

Moderator: Maria Bremner, Manager of Climate Action and Sustainability at RRU

Presenters:

  • Dr. Rob Newell, Canada Research Chair in Climate Change, Biodiversity & Sustainability
  • Bob Peart, biologist, educator, and award-winning conservationist and advocate for environmental protection.
