President Steenkamp: Goes by bike

Today is Bike to Work Day in Canada, and I can certainly say that one of the single best investments I have made is my e-bike. With the ability to hop on the E&N Bike Path, the Galloping Goose, and other trails, it is a quiet, tranquil, simple way to travel to most of my destinations, and I have really come to enjoy my daily rides to and from work.

Biking to get to work has multiple benefits, because whether you like the pace, the chance to be out in nature or the fact that it reduces costs and emissions by not using a car, it’s good for the mind, the body and the planet.

“Bike to Work” days are a great opportunity to try it out if you haven’t before.

I find the ride to work helps me think through issues and identify creative solutions to problems and that the ride home allows me to process the day and decompress.

Since I bought this bike I’ve logged close to 6000km, which represents a lot of thinking....  In fact, if I had biked that distance due east from here, I’d be approaching Charlottetown now (6077 road kms away).

In my video this week, bike along with me from my home to the Royal Roads campus, and then make plans to join the Royal Roads Wheelies for Go by Bike week in Victoria, happening May 31 – June 6.

To join the RRU Roadies, first create an account on GoByBikeBC, then use our RRU Roadies link to join the team. My thanks to the HealthyU team for organizing this year.
