Full Remembrance Day program at RRU
Royal Roads University invites the community to join a day of reflection and remembrance on Tuesday, November 11, with a series of events honouring Canada’s veterans and their enduring legacy.
Remembrance Day ceremony
The day begins at 10:40 a.m. with a solemn Remembrance Day ceremony on the Castle Terrace Lawn outside Hatley Castle, co-hosted by Royal Roads University, the Vancouver Island Ex-Cadet Club, and CFB Esquimalt. This gathering offers a moment to pay tribute to those who have served and made sacrifices for our country.
Documentary film screening
Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to a documentary screening at 11:45 a.m. in the Quarterdeck of the Grant Building. Presented by Geoffrey Bird, professor and lead of the War Heritage Research Initiative, the film titled Story Pole: Indigenous Veterans and the Tallest Totem in the World explores the powerful stories of Indigenous veterans and their commemoration. The 45-minute film is free and open to the public.

Visit the RRU Museum
From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Royal Roads University Museum, located in the lower level of Hatley Castle, will welcome visitors to explore exhibits that delve into Canada’s military history. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome.
Grab a bite to eat or a warm beverage from the Habitat Café, open from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., offering light refreshments for purchase.
Pacific Opera Victoria performance
The day concludes with a special performance of Remembering Mary’s Wedding, a reimagining of the beloved Canadian play and opera, hosted by Pacific Opera Victoria. The show begins at 2:00 p.m. in the Dogwood Auditorium. Tickets are available via Eventbrite and are free for active military members and veterans.
