Black on Island MLA cabinet members

Stack of folded newspapers

Assoc. Prof. David Black offered insight, as a political communication expert, on the new cabinet appointments announced by Premier John Horgan last month.

Seven of the 25 cabinet positions are held by Island MLAs.

Here’s an excerpt:

“Any cabinet reflects a theory of governance. When you’re facing the remarkable problems this government is facing, you’re going to emphasize continuity and stability and experience over anything else—even things that might be typical in a less horrific year, for example rewarding the political gains the party made in the Fraser Valley with cabinet positions. That’s not happening. That’s a sacrifice again for this need for continuity and stability.”
