In this webinar, Howard Sapers will provide a brief history of segregation use in corrections, discuss the Ontario findings, and offer thoughts about how to make correctional practice safer and more rights respecting.

Meet Howard Sapers

Howard Sapers has a combined 40 years experience in the justice, corrections and political sectors. He currently consults domestically and internationally on oversight, ombudship and correctional policy and practice. Mr. Sapers was the Correctional Investigator of Canada from 2004-2016, and recently completed two years as the Independent Advisors on Corrections Reform for the province of Ontario. Mr. Sapers produced four reports for Ontario, including Segregation in Ontario that offered advice and recommendations on ways to reduce the use of segregation, improve conditions of confinement for those segregated, and enhance accountability and transparency in the segregation process.
