Join Royal Roads University, the Vancouver Island Ex-Cadet Club and CFB Esquimalt for a Remembrance Day ceremony at 10:40 a.m. on the Castle Terrace Lawn outside Hatley Castle.

Film screening

Following the ceremony, at about 11:45 a.m., Dr. Geoffrey Bird, RRU professor and lead of the War Heritage Research Initiative, will present his documentary film, Story Pole: Indigenous Veterans and the Tallest Totem in the WorldGuided by First Nations Elders, this documentary explores the story of Indigenous veterans and how they are remembered today. This free, public 45-minute screening will be held on the Quarterdeck in the Grant Building.

* Please note, this film documents racist and colonial ideologies; it may be troubling for some viewers and is not suitable for children under 13 years old. 

Visit the RRU Museum

The museum and exhibits, located in the lower level of Hatley Castle, will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Habitat Café will offer light refreshments for purchase from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

Remembering Mary’s Wedding - Dogwood Auditorium

Following the film screening, Pacific Opera Victoria hosts a reimagining of the beloved Canadian play, Remembering Mary’s Wedding in Royal Roads University’s Dogwood Auditorium at 2 p.m. Tickets are available for through Eventbrite and are free for active military members and veterans.
