Doctoral Scholarships provide awards of up to $10,000 to RRU doctoral students to support the research phase of the program and to encourage the timely completion of study. The intention of this funding is to support students who have not yet received substantial financial support, and whose research will either impact management learning and practice (DBA Program), or will make a distinct interdisciplinary contribution to applied scholarship in the social sciences (DSocSci Program).

Eligibility

  • Satisfactory academic standing.  
  • Have received academic approval on their research proposal and have received approval from the Royal Roads University Research Ethics Board (if applicable)..
  • Have not received the Doctoral Scholarship in the past.
  • DBA student award applicants must demonstrate a solid potential for scholarly, evidence-based, scientific and practice-oriented research that contributes to the advancement of professional, sustainable, value-driven, and innovative management practices and leadership. 
  • DSocSci student award applicants must demonstrate a solid potential for the development of a new critical analysis of a practical issue or challenge; the development of a new theory from practice; the novel application of existing theory to a practical challenge; or the discovery of a new professional approach to practice.
  • Preference may be given to qualified applicants who have not yet received significant scholarships or other tuition support for the program.

How to apply

A complete application comprises:

  1. the online award application
  2. a maximum 750-word research proposal that includes the research problem, research question, and the importance of research to advance theory and practice and a reflection on the applicant's intellectual leadership.
  3. a reference letter from the academic supervisor (this letter may be submitted directly to Financial Aid & Awards).

Submission instructions:

  • this In-Course Award is open to Doctoral students who are active in their program on the deadline date
  • pending the availability of funding, the competition aims to run annually from:
    • September 1st to November 1st (closes 11:59pm RRU time)
  • applications are submitted online through MyAdmin. A full list of awards in competition will be viewable upon login
  • describe eligibility in one page, and clearly title the document Doctoral Scholarship and display your name in the top margin.
  • one additional page may be attached addressing eligibility criteria for all other awards in that competition with your name in top margin
