A future home for transformative learning

Royal Roads' Bloom Castle by the Sea will soon offer students a one-of-a-kind learning experience focused on regenerative sustainability for the Gulf Islands and beyond.

The new campus was generously donated by the late Susan Bagley Bloom and includes two breathtaking acreages on Salt Spring Island, near Beddis Beach.

Preparing for something extraordinary

Right now, we're preparing for spring upgrades to the property to meet post-secondary standards for safety and accessibility. In the meantime, tune into upcoming events and consultations.

Events

Annual Apple Festival: September 29, 2024

We took part in Salt Spring Island's annual Apple Festival, with gardens and orchards open to the public at the Bloom Castle by the Sea properties.

Community Input

In the year ahead, we'll activate a broad and diverse community engagement and consultation process with our on-island partner SSI Farmland Trust. This process will lead the development of a strategic plan and operational framework that supports Susan Bloom’s legacy.

It will also serve as a blueprint for academic research, programming, events and activities that will take place at this new RRU site on Salt Spring Island.

You're invited to participate

Members of the Salt Spring Island and RRU communities, along with other key stakeholders, will be invited to participate. Through deep consultation, this gift will become a benchmark for community-involved stewardship, improving food security, addressing climate change and safeguarding the farming traditions of Salt Spring Island for its residents.

Check back for updates on the engagement and consultation process. We'll continue to share event details and opportunities for you to provide input and feedback on the strategic plan.
