Predicting Corporate Bankruptcy using Artificial Intelligence During COVID 19

Mark Lokanan was awarded Research and Professional Development funds for research project that uses artificial intelligence techniques to predict corporate bankruptcy during COVID-19.

The purpose of this project is to predict corporate bankruptcy during COVID-19. More specifically, this paper will use artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, mainly artificial neural networks, and ensemble algorithms, to predict the indicators that lead to firms becoming bankrupt. Data for this project will come from Fortune 500 companies listed on the Fortune 500 database. This paper will be anchored on the normative theory of bankruptcy. The findings are expected to identify the key features and estimate the probability of a firm going bankrupt within the next fiscal year.
