Bio (Bill Lewis)
Tourism and Hospitality Management
Bill Lewis has a diverse background in the hotel business with more than 25 years of experience, including more than 15 years in management roles. His career began with roles in food and beverage service, before he moved in to front office-related roles. He is known for his upbeat, hands-on and relaxed leadership style, which has contributed to increasing market share in every hotel he has managed. He has a strong background in revenue management and a strategic approach to marketing and electronic distribution. He specializes in leadership and team building, strategic planning, online marketing, reputation management and social media.
Prior to joining Royal Roads, Lewis was a general manager at a variety of properties for Coast Hotels and Resorts, including Coast Edmonton Plaza Hotel and Coast Edmonton House Hotel. He is currently the general manager of The Magnolia Hotel & Spa, a luxury boutique hotel in Victoria. The hotel was awarded “Top 10 Luxury Hotels in Canada” by Trip Advisor and “Top 10 Business Travel Hotels in the World” by Condé Nast Traveler Magazine under Lewis’ leadership. He is the president of the Skal Club of Victoria and is also first vice-chair of the board of directors of Tourism Victoria.
Lewis holds a Bachelor of Commerce in entrepreneurial management, with distinction, in entrepreneurial management from Royal Roads University. He completed a MBA in hotel and tourism management at the University of Guelph in 2006, where he focused his major research in the area of generational differences in Canadian hospitality.
