Catalyst and RRU partner to advance cybersecurity leadership

Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst at Toronto Metropolitan University (“the Catalyst”) and Royal Roads University (RRU) in British Columbia are joining forces to strengthen cybersecurity education, innovation and training across Canada. This partnership brings new opportunities to the West Coast while connecting talent and expertise from coast to coast.
Together, the Catalyst and RRU will deliver world-class cybersecurity and digital risk management training while creating new programs to help startups, scaleups and industry professionals thrive. The partnership will also spark collaborative research, youth-focused initiatives, and opportunities for learners and innovators to connect through conferences and forums.
Looking outward, both institutions are committed to exploring international opportunities and sharing knowledge and resources that strengthen Canada’s cybersecurity leadership at home and abroad.
“At its heart, this partnership is about positioning Canada as a global leader in cybersecurity at a time of rising geopolitical challenges,” said Charles Finlay, founding executive director of the Catalyst. “By working with RRU, we’re not only strengthening Canada’s cyber capacity, we’re showcasing the incredible talent, resources, and companies we have here, and taking a major step toward positioning our country to lead on the world stage.”
“Partnering with the Catalyst, we’ll help to equip Canadians with the skills, innovation, and research needed to drive our country’s leadership in this critical field,” said Philip Steenkamp, president and vice-chancellor of Royal Roads University. “This partnership brings the strengths of academia and industry together, creating powerful opportunities for collaboration that will benefit communities across the West Coast and beyond.”
This five-year collaboration builds on the success of the Micro-Credential course in Managing Organizational Cybersecurity and Compliance — a program RRU and the Catalyst created earlier this year to address a critical skills gap in BC. The new partnership will expand on this foundation to bring a broader body of programming to Western Canada, building on a shared commitment to developing cybersecurity talent.
