Michael-Anne (Mickie) Noble
Candidate, Academic Council
Associate Professor
Dr. Michael-Anne (Mickie) Noble is an associate professor in the School of Environment and Sustainability with more than 25 years of experience teaching undergraduate science.
Noble earned her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the Faculty of Education at the University of Victoria in 2017. She also holds a Master of Science in Microbiology (1993) and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biochemistry (1990) from the University of Victoria.
Noble joined Royal Roads University in 1997 as an associate faculty member to teach microbiology to the first class of the RRU Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science program. After six years of teaching microbiology labs at the University of Victoria and the Applied Microbiology and Biochemistry course at RRU, she joined RRU as a full-time instructor in 2001.
She became an assistant professor in 2008, an associate professor in 2020 and has served as the program chair of the Undergraduate Science Committee since 2014.
Her current research interests include problem-based learning in online environments, undergraduate science curriculum design, course feedback, and children’s representations of scientists. She developed and works extensively with the K-5 Science Outreach Program to allow elementary school children the opportunity to experience hands-on science both in the laboratory as well as in the forest and creeks on the Royal Roads grounds.
Noble is part of the Science Educators Research Group, a subgroup of the Canadian Society for Studies in Education, as well as the Canadian Association of Curriculum Studies and is currently the program chair for the annual conference of CACS.
As someone who has seen the growth of RRU from its inception, she hopes to contribute to the continuing development of the university by serving on Academic Council.
