M. Hassan Wafai
Faculty candidate
Board of Governors
With declining enrollment and ongoing restructuring, I believe it is important to have a faculty member representative on the RRU Board of Governors who understands the logic of business and organizational dynamics while professionally and strongly advocating for the academic perspective. I hope that my extensive international and Canadian professional and academic experience, including the past eleven years at RRU, demonstrates that I have the qualities to be your voice, advocating for what matters most to us. I would be honoured to represent RRU faculty on the Board of Governors.
Having joined the university in 2013, I am currently Associate Professor of operations and supply chain at the School of Business, Faculty of Management, and the Program Head of the Doctor of Business Administration Program (DBA), a program that I was the lead designer of as well. . I have been active in teaching, researching, and providing service to the university and faculty, including active involvement in RRUFA as a member at large. Prior to leading the DBA Program, I led the Master of Global Management Program (MGM), and I played an instrumental role with my colleagues in making this program the largest one at RRU.
My research and scholarly activities reflect my professional and academic journey. My research focus is on supply chain resilience, artificial intelligence in supply chains, global value chains, technology and knowledge transfer, innovation management, and doctoral education in Canada. In addition to my academic experience, I have extensive international professional experience working as a project manager and consultant in various manufacturing and service industries, including with the BC Government.
I teach across several programs at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. I am committed to RRU’s learning, teaching, and research model (LTRM), focusing on the three core values: 1) applied and authentic, 2) caring and community-based, and 3) transformational. I believe that teaching is both a responsibility and a passion.
Like most RRU faculty, I have been involved in numerous administrative and service activities as well as program design. I currently sit, or have sat on, various committees, including the UCPC committee, Academic Council, several programs’ steering committees, the Student Award adjudication committee, and the Honorary Doctoral Awards committee, among others.
My involvement in RRUFA as a member at large has helped me develop a fair and balanced approach to understanding faculty collective aspirations and concerns, leading me to deeply appreciate the importance of our collective agreement.
