Lori Bowden and Peter Reid

Lori Bowden and Peter Reid are both world champion triathletes, excelling in the most grueling form of the sport: the Ironman competition. Ironman competitors swim 3.9 kilometres, cycle 180 kilometres, and then finish by running a full 42-kilometre marathon.

Mr. Reid and Ms. Bowden moved to Victoria in the winter of 1996 to concentrate on their triathlon careers. They very quickly established themselves as the best Ironman athletes in the world – each with 11 Ironman * wins and the distinction of being husband-and-wife victors in the Ironman Australia and Ironman Canada competitions.

Success in this sport requires patience and perseverance, training and talent, commitment and courage. Ms. Bowden and Mr. Reid believe another element is also vital: enjoyment. They embody the Royal Roads’ philosophy of “living our learning” and actively work to promote their sport, their fellow athletes – and the message that the challenge of triathlons can be enjoyed by the average fit person.

Royal Roads University is proud to bestow the Chancellor’s Community Recognition Award on Lori Bowden and Peter Reid. Their accomplishments are an inspiration to all Canadians who pursue difficult goals and we believe their commitment to excellence embodies the spirit and principles Royal Roads instills in its learning philosophy.
