The Knowing: One family’s journey

Based on her third, national bestselling book, The Knowing, Tanya Talaga creates an intimate experience for audiences as she tells the story of the search for her family’s matriarch, Annie Carpenter. The story of Annie represents every child and family member lost in Indian Residential Schools and Indian Hospitals. This is an intergenerational tale of survival and hope.

Tanya Talaga is an award-winning Anishinaabe journalist and author. Through her bestselling books, acclaimed documentaries and podcasts, regular columns with the Globe and Mail, and powerful keynotes, Talaga aims to amplify Indigenous voices and stories across Canada and the world. She is a born storyteller, who is passionate about education reform and sharing her hope for a more inclusive and equitable future.

Tanya’s most recent book, The Knowing, retells the history of Canada through an Indigenous lens, beginning with the life of her great-great grandmother and her family, as they experienced decades of government- and Church-sanctioned enfranchisement and genocide.
