On September 25th, Career Learning and Development will be hosting Parisa Pakzad, Human Resources Advisor for the Public Service Commission, Government of Canada. Parisa will be joined by special guests Chris Woosley-Lavoie, Inshore Rescue Boat Coordinator from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and Jonathan Walcot, who recently completed a student position with the Canadian Coast Guard and has since been hired as a full-time employee. 

This session will cover:

  • An overview of student and graduate hiring programs within the Government of Canada (e.g. FSWEP, Co-op, Post-Secondary Recruitment)
  • Specific information about the Canadian Coast Guard Inshore Rescue Boat (IRB) student program (Summer 2026).  A specialized Inventory is currently open, with a deadline of November 24, 2025: https://emploisfp-psjobs.cfp-psc.gc.ca/srs-sre/page01.html?poster=1782&lang=en
  • Step-by-step guidance on how to search and apply for federal job opportunities through GC Jobs
  • Tips for crafting a strong application, including resumes and responding to screening questions
  • Information on security clearance and language requirements
  • Q&A to address individual questions from students/alumni

Location: Sequoia 105, Colwood Campus & Zoom.  For those who can’t join in-person, once you register for this event you will receive the zoom link.
