This course explores transformational and values-based leadership and their role in guiding meaningful social change and environmental impact. Students are introduced to key theories of leadership, change processes, and strategies for identifying influential intervention points within complex social, political, and cultural systems. We assess relational aspects of effective leadership models and consider the role and impact of the natural environment within these models. We examine real-time case studies and through exercises of critical inquiry and positionality, students consider how to respectfully and legitimately incorporate diverse perspectives and interests into change initiatives. The course also considers how community attitudes towards transformative leadership originate and evolve, equipping students with tools to recognize and respond to areas of resistance.
