The course will introduce key topics necessary for the development and implementation of economic planning and enterprise management within this context including: •Exploring Indigenomics – the changing legal and opportunity landscape for Indigenous businesses; •Defining an Indigenous worldview and approach to economic development and businessmanagement and applying Indigenous knowledge and values in decision-making; •Examining governance and ways to reconcile the social needs of communities and the requirementsof successful business operations, and exploring ways to incorporate Indigenous governance andoversight in those operations; •Developing and implementing strategic and successful business partnerships with private sector andgovernment; •Exploring management approaches for Indigenous business enterprises, including the application ofIndigenous knowledge into management approaches that reflect Indigenous perspectives. Students will work in teams as they develop their shared vision of how Indigenous worldviews and approaches can be integrated into business and management. The unique situation of Indigenous businesses and their role in the community will be explored, along with ways to connect community and business goals through partnerships and benefit agreements. Using case studies and real examples of successful business arrangements and partnerships, students will have the opportunity to develop both team and individual presentations and reports. *pendng approval
