The BC Indigenous Student Award was established in 2008 as part of the provincial government's strategy to improve access to and achievement in education. Its purpose is to support Indigenous people in pursuing post-secondary education by reducing financial barriers.
The Society's programs are administered by the Victoria Foundation. Awards of $1,000 - $5,000 are available for Indigenous people pursuing post-secondary education at B.C. public post-secondary institutions or Indigenous-run institutions.
Eligibility
Awards will be determined on a competitive basis to applicants who:
- Plan to study full time in a program with a minimum length of 2 semesters leading to a post-secondary credential;
- Are First Nations, Inuit or Metis;
- Are residents of British Columbia, defined as having had a primary residence at an address in the province for at least the past 12 consecutive months prior to the application deadline.
