Exam deferral

In extenuating circumstances, Royal Roads might allow you to defer a Faculty of Management exam.

Your program office will determine the new date of your exam. You may need to pay rescheduling and cancellation fees.

Requesting exam deferral

For each extenuating circumstance below, follow the instructions to request exam deferral:

Illness or injury on date of exam

Who to notify
Notify the Exams Office or your external invigilation site (if possible, on the date of the exam) using the contact information provided in your exam confirmation email.

Supporting documentation
Your physician's office must complete and submit the medical certificate for deferred exam within 72 hours of the missed exam. If we don't receive this documentation, you'll receive an "incomplete” grade for the course, or, if this exam was a rewrite, an F.

Fees
Exam fees will be waived pending supporting documentation.

Bereavement

Who to notify
Complete an application for alternate exam date form and submit it to the Exams Office within 72 hours of the missed exam.

Supporting documentation
You may be required to submit a copy of the death certificate or obituary to the Exams Office.

Fees
Exam rescheduling and cancellation fees will be waived for students whose immediate family member has passed away. Immediate family includes parent, step-parent, spouse, child, step-child, brother, sister, father or mother in-law, grandparent, grandchild, son or daughter in-law, or any other relative permanently residing in the student’s household or with whom the student currently resides.
