RRU celebrates Pride 2022

Royal Roads University is celebrating Pride week in Victoria with a series of online and in-person events throughout June and July.

Celebrating Pride is a core aspect of Royal Roads University’s work on equity, diversity and inclusion and an opportunity to celebrate 2SLGBTQ+ people while recognizing there is still much work to be done to achieve equality.

June 23: RRU Pride Kick-Off – for students

Students will celebrate at the RRU Life Lounge wearing bright colours for a virtual dance party. RRU Students are also invited to show what Pride means to them in an Instagram contest hosted by the Royal Roads University Student Association (RRUSA) and RRU Student Engagement.

June 26: RRU in the Victoria Pride Parade – everyone welcome

RRU was the first post-secondary institution to be in the Victoria Pride Parade, and we’ll be out again after the two-year hiatus. Everyone is invited to walk with RRU Proud team. RRU students will receive free T-shirts courtesy of RRUSA so they can show their Pride all year long.

June 28: RRU Pride Picnic – for students

Students will gather for a Pride Picnic hosted by RRUSA and RRU Student Engagement to connect, enjoy music and activities, eat and celebrate Pride.

June 28: Research in the Queer Sphere talk by Robert C. Mizzi – everyone welcome

Join the RRU Office of Research and Innovation in welcoming the Canada Research Chair in Queer, Community, and Diversity Education Dr. Robert C. Mizzi for a talk on the challenges and benefits when including 2SLGBTQ+ people in research designs.

July 4 to 8: Positive Space Network Workshop – for RRU community

RRU Proud is hosting a Positive Space Network Workshop to discuss creating healthy and inclusive spaces for members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

July 12: Best Practices for Greater Inclusion of Gender Diversity in Higher Education – for RRU community members

President of TransFocus Consulting Kai Scott will deliver a virtual session on the cultural and structural factors that unintentionally exclude transgender and non-binary students and employees at universities across Canada.
