Partners in Leadership Education

The School of Leadership Studies wishes to thank Shelbourne Community Kitchen Society for their engagement as our spring 2020 Leadership Challenge™ sponsoring organization.

The purpose of the Leadership Challenge™ is to create a mutually beneficial learning experience for a local organization and graduate students in the first year of their MA in Leadership. To create this learning experience, some inquiry with the organizational sponsor is necessary and we are grateful to Clarice Dillman, Board Chair, and participating members of the Shelbourne Community Kitchen team for their generous commitment of time and voluntary engagement in this activity.

The Shelbourne Community Kitchen, also referred to as ‘the Kitchen’, is a collaborative effort of three Shelbourne Valley churches—St. Luke’s Anglican, St. Aidan’s United, and Lutheran Church of the Cross—and two Community Associations, Mount Tolmie Community Association and Camosun Community Association. Their mission is creating opportunities with people living on a low income to cook, grow, share, and connect for improved health and wellbeing.

In response to participating in this activity, members of the Kitchen stated:

We were moved by the way the students responded with practical and tangible ideas. This has been an inspiring experience, such wisdom and knowledge in the presentations and papers. We look forward to sharing these with our board.

The Leadership Challenge™ is a cornerstone of the first residency of the MA in Leadership program. For more information or to inquire about becoming a potential sponsor, please contact us.
