Royal Roads University and the University of the Philippines Los Baños are collaborating to make international education more inclusive, sustainable and resilient.

The two universities have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore codesigning and codelivering a climate action leadership program for professionals working in postsecondary education in the Philippines. A consortium of 12 intuitions in the Philippines will be facilitating this program.

A team of professionals from each institution was present at the signing, including UPLB Chancellor Jose V. Camacho Jr., Royal Roads Director of Global Recruitment and Partnerships Tasha Welch, and Vice-Chancellor Nathaniel C. Bantayan and Chairman Dr. J. Prospero De Vera III from the Commission on Higher Education in the Philippines.

It is anticipated the nine-month climate action leadership program will be taught using RRU’s blended delivery model composed of online learning, a short on-campus residency in Victoria, BC, and final capstone presentations in the Philippines.

The partners aim to announce the new program during the Universities Canada Mission to the Philippines in early November 2023 as part of an initiative dedicated to deepening ties between the Philippines and Canadian universities.
