Students studying at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology now have a pathway to transfer to Royal Roads University’s project-based Bachelor of Business Administration in Innovation and Sustainability program in Canada.

Royal Roads President Philip Steenkamp, accompanied by Dean of Interdisciplinary Studies Robert Mittelman, recently signed a memorandum of understanding that expands access to high-quality international education for SLIIT business students.

“By creating this transfer pathway into our project-based BBA program, we’re expanding what’s possible for SLIIT business students,” says Mittelman. “It’s an opportunity for students to build a strong foundation locally and then step into an applied, international learning environment designed around real projects and real impact.”

In addition, Steenkamp says the partnership builds on RRU’s existing commitment to diverse perspectives across its programs.

“International students add depth to discussions, broaden perspectives and help every student learn to think, lead and collaborate with a global mindset,” Steenkamp says. “By sharing their experiences from different countries, cultures and even business environments, international students challenge assumptions and bring real-world context to the classroom.

The formalized partnership deepens RRU connections in Sri Lanka, Steenkamp says, and lays the foundation for future discussion on of how applied, changemaking-oriented programming could support regional social, environmental and economic priorities.
