It is with sadness that Royal Roads University acknowledges the passing of former BC Premier and Ambassador to Germany John Horgan. Horgan also served in the role of senior fellow for RRU’s School of Leadership Studies.

“This is a great loss for our community,” says RRU President and Vice-Chancellor Philip Steenkamp. “Horgan was an admired and accomplished leader, who saw our province through some of its most challenging times. I am grateful we were given the chance to collaborate with him in his role as Senior Fellow. His teachings will serve as an exemplary guide for future leaders in the years to come.”

Horgan leaves behind the legacy of a dedicated life in public service, a loving family and, through his recent work with Royal Roads, his knowledge and experience will help shape the minds of our future leaders.

His legacy will continue to inspire us as we strive to uphold his values of fair-minded leadership. In remembrance of a truly impactful leader and friend of RRU, the flag will be lowered to half-mast.

Senior Fellows are people who have provided extraordinary leadership in public service, business, and civil sectors in Canada and beyond. They are appointed to the University for the purpose of extending, amplifying, and communicating their work. Horgan was Royal Roads University's inaugural senior fellow, Leadership Studies.
