Royal Roads is celebrating Earth Day with resources, programs and activities dedicated to caring for our beautiful planet. Here’s our top five picks to plan your climate actions:

  1. Climate Credentials

Channel your passion for saving our planet into a Climate Action Fundamentals Micro Credential, a Master’s in Environmental Management or any number of degree, certificate and diploma courses we offer. Our playlist of climate webinars features panel discussions with faculty, students and alumni for a free preview of your studies.

  1. Recommended Reads

Curated by RRU librarians, you can check out in-library and digital Earth Day displays showcase books, theses and films that explore all aspects of climate action including navigating the interpersonal landscapes of a planet in trouble, the politics of climate change and climate hope and resilience

  1. Adding ‘Climate’ to Action Heroes

Every day, we’re inspired by students, alumni and faculty who are transforming the world and working on and in climate action. Meet Melina Scholefield who is charting a path to net-zero with BC Builders; Robin Cox who is empowering young people in BC and Puerto Rico to take action on climate change and Vivian Giang who worked with Indigenous communities in Hawaii and New Zealand  to study geothermal energy and Indigenous rights.

  1. Tidy your Takeout

Taking your lunch to go? Enjoy a treat while avoiding single use takeout containers. Habitat Café offers reusable cups and containers for a small deposit fee. The sustainable alternatives are provided by the nūlla project, an alumni founded business. Each time you fuel up, simply bring back your cup or container and they’ll trade you for a shiny clean one.

  1. Study your SDGs

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. SDGs address the global challenges we all face, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice. Dr. Tracy Smith Carrier,  Canada Research Chair in Advancing UN SDGs helps explain how climate change touches all aspects of our lives.
