Feasibility Study for Ogden Point to Fort Rodd Hill Tour

Geoffrey Bird was awarded Parks Canada funds to develop a feasibility study of a tour of the Victoria Inner Harbour to Fort Rodd Hill aimed at seasonal cruise ship passengers arriving in Victoria.

Parks Canada proposes to examine the feasibility of a seasonal tour from Ogden Point/Victoria Inner Harbour to Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Light House National Historic Park, and Hatley Castle National Historic Site. The primary market would be cruise ship passengers arriving in Victoria. The general design of the tour could include transportation by boat from Ogden Point to Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Light House, an aboriginal culinary experience, a bus to Hatley Castle along with guided tours of the three sites.
Demand for new tourism experience in Victoria is high. With the number of cruise ship passengers arriving in Victoria reaching over 500,000 this past summer, an excursion to the national historic sites warrants further assessment. Analysis of costs associated with the tour, such as the construction of the jetty, logistics involving cruise ship time in harbour, technical issues such as chartering a boat with suitable capacity, as well as market issues such as price point and the competitive environment are some of the considerations that warrant this feasibility study.
