From Comfort to Courage: Leading Through Times of Change

What does it take to step beyond comfort and create real impact? In this engaging talk, Coltan Fagan shares his journey from coming out on a small, close-knit undergraduate campus in rural Nova Scotia to stepping into student leadership and now using academic research as a platform for change.  

Through powerful storytelling and insights from his current research, this session explores how moments of courage, speaking up and stepping into the unknown, can spark meaningful impact. Attendees will leave inspired to use their voices and work to challenge norms and drive change.

Bio 

Coltan Fagan is a post-secondary educator, scholar, and community builder focused on creating more inclusive spaces. His advocacy began at Acadia University, where he helped re-establish the Student Pride Office, and continued during his master’s studies at Royal Roads University (RRU), where his work was recognized with a community award. He later served on the board of Calgary Pride, supporting inclusive programming and community initiatives. Fagan is currently a Doctor of Business Administration candidate at RRU, researching the impacts of anti-2SLGBTQ+ discourse in Alberta. He brings together lived experience and research to inspire meaningful change and believes it begins when we move from comfort to courage.
