The Dr. Martha Farrell International Scholarship for Global Leaders

Portrait of Dr. Martha Farrell

Dr. Martha Farrell was an associate faculty member in the Master of Arts in Global Leadership program at Royal Roads University and a committed global leader recognized for her courage and determination in making a difference in the lives of women.

Tragically, on May 13, 2015, Dr. Farrell was killed in a terrorist attack in Kabul, Afghanistan while conducting a workshop on gender issues. This event brought home the terrible news that the Royal Roads community had lost a colleague, close friend and loved one.

In recognition of Dr. Farrell’s tireless efforts to promote citizen participation, and democratic governance focusing on empowering the poor and excluded, her courage and determination in making a difference in the lives of women, and for her part contributing to the Global Leadership program, Royal Roads has established the Dr. Martha Farrell International Scholarship for Global Leaders.

This scholarship will be awarded to international students or refugee students living in Canada enrolled in the Masters of Arts in Global Leadership program. The award recipients must embody Dr. Farrell’s ideals, and demonstrate their global citizenship through outstanding contributions to their community as well as their resolve to work on gender issues in global leadership.

We hope through the establishment of this scholarship, Dr. Farrell’s name and memory will continue to inspire more of the compassionate work she dedicated her life toward.
