Attendance at the International Social Work Congress 2017 in Ankara, Turkey (May 29-31) to present Reflections on Community Building- Laying the Grounds for Fruitful Youth-Adult Collaboration

Dr. Manion was awarded Research and Professional Development funds for a presentation on research that examines youth-led programs, practices, and policies in response to global and local injustices.

Youth are disproportionately impacted by global and local injustices. As partial redress, a growing body of rights-based approaches inform global and local debates on issues impacting youth. Having witnessed significant shifts in demographics, communication habits and employment culture, youth are at a crossroads. Youth are more educated and more technologically savvy than their predecessors, but they are also more challenged by this nexus of socioeconomic factors within an increasingly shrinking world. Despite this, youth-led programs, practices and policies still appear to be considered novel. This research explores how co-creation with youth and adults can better address issues of mutual interest.
