Mingmin’s research follows two interconnected streams. The first examines global precarity and youth cultures, with particular attention to how education systems, labor market, and affective politics shape precarious youth in contemporary China, where tensions between individual autonomy and authoritarian governance are sharply felt. The second stream focuses on media and pop culture in global Asia, especially the dynamics of urban-rural relations, class, and gender within global and regional cultural flows. Both streams are grounded in the approach of "radical contextualization”, which foregrounds the complex relational processes that constitute social formations.
